Principal, Signa Strategies

Location: Canada

Type: Full-time

Level: Senior Executive

About Signa Strategies

We are Canada’s only strategic advisory firm exclusively dedicated to supporting homegrown Canadian technology companies.

We work with ambitious firms operating in sectors that matter to Canada’s economic future, including technology, AI, cybersecurity, healthcare and defence. Many of these companies are building in complex, regulated, or government-adjacent environments where policy, politics, capital, customers, and public trust all shape their ability to grow. After a year of building trusted relationships and delivering meaningful results, Signa is entering its next phase of growth. We are looking for a Principal to help build that next phase.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a new national organization from the ground up, taking on a high-trust, senior advisory role working closely with the Managing Partner across client strategy, business development, operations, and the firm’s long-term growth.

This individual will act as a force multiplier, helping clients navigate complexity, support the growth of the firm, and help build the systems, culture, and service offering required to turn early momentum into a durable national advisory platform.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Be able to engage fully in government relations work, without federal lobbying restrictions that limit interaction with public officials or decision-makers.

  • Bring significant experience in government relations, public affairs, strategic advisory, communications, public policy, politics, business development, or a related field.

  • Understand how government, policy, and procurement decisions are made, and how organizations engage credibly with public institutions.

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Canada’s technology sector, innovation policy landscape, and the political and regulatory dynamics shaping growth.

  • Write clearly and communicate complex ideas in a concise, actionable way.

  • Operate effectively across both strategy and execution, moving between high-level direction and detailed delivery.

  • Influence without direct authority and build trust with senior stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and decision-makers.

  • Exercise sound political and commercial judgment.

  • Be comfortable advising senior leaders and contributing to high-stakes decisions.

  • Navigate ambiguity and bring clarity in evolving or undefined situations.

  • Contribute to business development, account growth, and client acquisition.

  • Demonstrate discretion, professionalism, and reliability, with a low-ego, high-ownership mindset.

  • Be entrepreneurial and motivated to help build and shape a growing firm.

  • Be self-directed, collaborative, and solution-oriented, with the ability to lead when needed and execute when required.

What you’ll do

The Principal will work across four core areas:

Strategic Client Advisory

You will serve as a trusted senior advisor to clients across Canada’s innovation economy.

This includes developing and executing government relations, public affairs, and strategic communications strategies aligned with client goals. You will help clients understand political, regulatory, policy, and market developments, and translate that complexity into clear advice, practical next steps, and credible opportunities for engagement.

You will prepare briefing materials, strategic memos, issue analyses, client-ready recommendations, and meeting plans. You will support clients through high-stakes engagements, including government meetings, public announcements, policy consultations, stakeholder outreach, and coalition efforts.

The work requires judgment. Clients need advice that is clear, timely, grounded, and useful. They need someone who can see around corners, identify risks early, and help them act with confidence in a fast-moving environment.

Firm Building and Operations

You will help build the operating system of the firm. That means improving internal systems, workflows, project management practices, client service models, internal documentation, and reporting habits. It also means helping the firm stay organized, responsive, and commercially disciplined as it grows.

You will contribute to operational planning, hiring, onboarding, team development, budgeting, forecasting, revenue planning, and account-level financial tracking in collaboration with the Managing Partner.

For questions about your application or any other information listed here you can email careers@signastrategies.ca.

Business Development and Growth

You will help grow the firm. That includes identifying prospective clients, supporting relationship development, preparing proposals and pitches, and helping convert conversations into long-term client partnerships.

You will participate in events, networking, and ecosystem engagement that strengthen Signa’s presence in the market. You will help identify emerging opportunities in Canada’s technology, innovation, and public policy landscape, and help refine the firm’s service offerings as the business scales.

This is not a passive account-management role. We are looking for someone with commercial instincts, energy, and an interest in building a firm, not simply servicing work that already exists

Synthesis, Judgment, and Execution

A major part of the role is turning complexity into clarity. You will be expected to write well, think in frameworks, pressure-test assumptions, surface risks, and help turn high-level strategy into executable next steps. You will need to move between senior advisory conversations and the details required to make the work real.

The role will require sound judgment, discretion, responsiveness, and follow-through. It will also require comfort with ambiguity. Signa is growing, and the right person will help shape what comes next rather than wait for every process to be fully defined.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success means more than excellent client service. It means helping Signa Strategies grow into a stronger, more scalable, and more influential firm. We are looking for a leader who brings sound judgment, professionalism, and a strong commitment to client service, while taking ownership of priorities and moving work forward with confidence and initiative. They will contribute to a collaborative, energetic, and mission-driven culture, model clear communication, responsiveness, and follow-through, and help foster a workplace that values ambition, curiosity, integrity, and impact. Most importantly, they will help shape the identity of the firm as a trusted, modern, and values-driven partner to Canada’s tech sector.

Why Join Us

This is a rare opportunity to join a firm at an inflection point. Signa Strategies is already supporting clients and building momentum. Now, we are looking for someone who wants to help scale that momentum into something durable, respected, and nationally relevant.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Shape the future of a growing advisory firm.

  • Work closely with the Managing Director on high-impact decisions.

  • Support some of Canada’s most dynamic tech companies.

  • Influence the development of a firm with long-term ambition.

  • Play a meaningful role in building a business with purpose, credibility, and staying power.

Compensation:

We are offering a compensation package designed to attract and retain top talent. This includes a competitive base salary, a performance-based bonus structure aligned with individual and firm-wide success, and a comprehensive health benefits package. We also provide flexible working arrangements that support both high performance and personal sustainability.
